Protection of the Profession of Lawyer: Strategic Discussions Between Lawasia and the UIA in Singapore

Good meeting in Singapore on 10 February 2026, between Lawasia President Teong Liang Yao and François Moyse, the Chair of the Committee of the UIA (International Union of Lawyers), on the Convention of the Council of Europe on the Protection of the profession of Lawyer.

The topic was the follow-up of the Convention, also called the Convention of Luxembourg, in Asia and Europe . Currently 26 European countries have signed the Convention , whereby none has yet ratified it.

We agreed mutually to keep our organisations informed on the progress to be made for the ratification of the Convention and the hoped commitment of extra-European countries to join the Convention , as it is open to non-European states for ratification as well.
